If I Were King of OwbN - Genre Coordination

So I have some more thoughts regarding OWbN. I figure I will continue to get them off my chest. I'm not sure if its really of any value to anyone, but what the hell.

If I were King of OWbN

Yes, but along with this would have to come a revamp on what coords do. Right now they serve two distinct roles:

1) Genre Coord, NPC portrayer, etc.
2) Elder Level Partisan Roleplayer.

Number 2 is the one that concerns me. Either it should all be scripted, or we should just repeal the glass ceiling and let PCs run everything. As you say, if we moved to 100% OWBN Genre, do we need Paschek when we have Famularo?

Why not run a Time of Thin Blood plotline Org wide that ends with all Vampires of 7th Gen or lower getting wiped out, and only the "young'ins" (read: PCs) are left to pick up the pieces?

I'm all about PCs driving genre, but the thought of PCs driving with no guidelines or boundaries frightens me. PCs have proven time and again that they are, by and large, unwilling to step up and be genre cops. We'll have an Organization full of something that can only be called Vampire the Masquerade because of the clans and the fact that we call our sects camarilla, anarch, and sabbat, but not by the actual applied genre in game.

All very true, but at some point the elephant in the room that has to be dealt with is that every single player, ST, Council Rep, and Coord in OWBN have unique definitions for what "genre" entails. And they have those unique ideas about every single facet of genre.

If the job of coords/STs etc. is to curb player excesses... Is it really that much different, or even better... to have "Pascek says Pompeii can't do that" instead of "Dale says Frosty can't do that?"

In other words, is an "IC" solution superior to a "metagame" solution? When in the end they are exactly the same? And by same I mean they are because of genre enforcement, when genre is a Metagame concept to begin with?

I am not saying no controls, I am just saying shift controls to the metagame. Why? Because as long as controls are in the IC arena, Players will argue (and rightfully so) that they should be able to maneuver around them.

Chronicle SovYour number 2 I don't find that much of a problem if the inherent trust in electing people to do something is invoked and heeded. I think the organization needs to let go of the idea that the Cord level NPCs have 80+ STs that can control them as they see fit ( ... )
