Multitasking: An exit, an entrance, and a notsocrazy girl

The observant may notice that a treepot by the door that's become something of a fixture for a little while is no longer there. Yes, this does mean exactly what you think it means -- Trey has gone back home, finally. We'll see how long it lasts, won't we?

River is inside, for once, curled up with a copy of The Tempest and occasionally whispering ( Read more... )

There is an April sitting near Maureen (she hasn't noticed the other girl yet), sketching and humming to herself, a little smile hovering around her lips.

Life is still confusing. She still wants to start using again. She's still heartbroken over losing Roger. But for this moment, she's happy.

"Well then, d'you wanna judge?" Maureen manages to roll her eyes dismissively and smile suggestively at the same time, without either expression looking strange. We're still trying to figure out if this counts as a superpower or not.

This narration thinks it does. Possibly she is a minor deity.

"JD wouldn't like it," she says with a shake of her head and a giggle.

A minor deity who thinks she is a major deity. Her other power is sex appeal.

"And just who is JD, why is he ruining my fun, and would he like it more if he joined?" Maureen asks with a playful pout.

"JD's my boyfriend, and I dunno, but he'd probably have a nice daydream about it."

Gigglegiggle.

Under normal circumstances, hearing about boyfriends would probably make Maureen annoyed with April's existance. Under the current circumstances (i.e., drunkeness), Maureen just giggles more.

"Then I guess I'm the one who'd be joining, huh? Is he cute?"

April is drunk. But she still gets the bright glowy look. "He's adorable. And a doctor. I'm dating a doctor, Maur. Me."

She's having trouble believing it.

Maureen is torn between awwing and eyerolling.

She settles on, "Good for you girl." Because, drunk or not, she knows better than to bitter at April's well-deserved happiness.

"Thanks." April grins widely. Then waves her off. "But we're drinking because your girlfriend's a bitch, so we won't talk about that anymore."

April is, very obviously, on Maureen's side regardless of what happened.

Maureen can tell. April gets a big, pouncing, nearly-knock-you-off-your-chair hug for that.

"Women're bitches," she says decisively, possibly in agreement with April -- it's not quite clear. She takes a shot and adds, "An' men're bastards, so it doesn't matter either way cause you're fucked. Might as well make it a nice fuck."

"Amen!" April chirrups, not that she actually agrees, but because tonight is about making Maureen feel better, and that includes getting drunk with her and not arguing with her, and always always always being on her side.

People like Maureen need friends like April just for that reason.

There's another shot and a thoughtful pause before Maureen decides, "I give up."

Oh, yes.
