Chase is sitting at one of the tables in the lobby, looking worse than he has in a good while. It's actually his first time he's left his room since he last spoke to JD. He's nursing some sort of alcohol that is vaguely reminiscent of his past and he's not sure how many shots he's managed to take down ( Read more... )

The narration is throwing Martha at Chase, because she wants to throw someone and Martha can handle anything.

It's just a trait of her's. She's drawn to people who are hurting. Physically or emotionally. It's a dangerous trait sometimes, but it's one she hasn't been able to rid herself of.

She sees the man drowning his sorrows rather quickly and goes to sit next to him at the table. Not saying anything yet. The way he looks reminds her of her uncle after her cousin never came back.

Chase, honestly, doesn't realize there's someone sitting beside him until he sits his most recent shot glas down empty. Glancing over to her momentarily, he finds he looks straight back down to his glass.

The company was nice, even though he's never met this person. But somehow, that makes it easier.

"'M Chase," He'll finall say. Way to meet, circumstances considered.

"Martha Jones," she says, softly.

She turns to look at him. Her expression is relatively unreadable, but there's a glint of kindness there in her dark gaze.

"You looked like you could use someone to drink with." Martha glances at the shot glass. "What're you havin'?"

There's a slight nod given and he'll look back to his shot glass and think a bit more up.

"Tonic and gin."

It's bitter, but just enough to give a good burn. Make everything seem a little brighter.

She's heard about what's happened, the mournful feel the Inn has taken on urging her to poke around until she discovered the news. This is why she shows no surprise when she spots Chase off in his corner.

She says nothing when she moves to sit across from him, hands folded in front of her but she will watch carefully because intervening just doesn't seem right.

She considers offering her condolences, some sort of sympathy or comforting words or anything, but remains silent. She can't identify with him, can't say that she understands or feels the same or any of that. So she'll stay quiet, sit patiently until he notices her and then, only them, will she brush a hand against one of his own.

Part of him desperately wants to cling to Lucy, because he needs something real, something to allow him to realize that he's not completely lost. But he'll just sit where he is and toss back his next shot.

When her hand finds his, he gives it a squeeze before eyes lift and a pained smile is given.

"Fancy meeting you here..."

The alcohol hasn't clouded his mind, yet, actually, so he's still slightly coherent. Well, he can hold his alcohol. It's a family trait, apparently.

A sad smile. "You were sitting alone with liquids, how could I resist?"

She's not going to let his hand go, not unless he pulls it away and even then she will be hesitant.

"Are you going to be all right?" Because 'are you all right' is just stupid to ask right now.

Her sad smile is returned and somehow, she's breaking past the feeble walls he's managed to set up. And he's not even sure if he can cry any more because Chase? Never cries.

"Sure," He'll say and tip back the rest of his drink -- because really, when isn't he okay in the end?
