Pity the child with no such weapons...

Freddie hasn't been downstairs in the past week or so, and now that he's decided to emerge, he's sitting in a chair somewhat isolated from the main areas people congregate, with a cup of coffee that's rapidly cooling and a photo album on his lap ( Read more... )

Florence is looking for someplace secluded to curl up and cry, pink baby blanket in hand. She hasn't really gotten to, yet, since the nightmares stopped. She's been worried about Walter, and she can't bring herself to talk to Tolya about... well, everything. She's only vaguely buzzed, as for whatever reason she hasn't been able to bring herself to drink much the past few days, despite

She thinks she's found a secluded corner... until she notices someone sitting in a chair.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't..." she trails off, a little concerned. "Freddie?"

Freddie lifts his head sharply, half-closing the album quickly, though he keeps his finger stuck between the pages. "What? ...Florence."

He notices the baby blanket, and winces a little. He didn't need that just now.

"Hullo." She stands there, awkwardly, fiddling with the blanket. "Um... how... how are you?"

Freddie shrugs absently. "The usual." Which isn't actually all that great, but Florence doesn't need to know that. "Why're you carrying that?"

How they've managed to avoid each other thus far is amazing, really, and it's about time they bumb into each other.

Toly was looking for a place to sit with his tea and read, away from the confusion, and happened to gravitate towards where Freddie was sitting. He sighed, but decided to be polite and nodded. "Mr. Trumper, I'd heard you were here."

Freddie glanced up sharply, snapping the photo album shut almost immediately.

"I kind of hoped you weren't." Bastard. He can't stand Anatoly under normal circumstances. Now, looking at photographs of when he used to be with Florence and remembering everything the Soviet took from him... he's even less charitable than normal.

"What was that you were looking at?" he asked, feigning curiosity. He might as well attempt to be polite, even if he did despise the man.

Freddie pauses. Ordinarily, he'd tell Anatoly that it's none of his business, but the photographs themselves have put him in a quieter state of mind. Not necessarily a better mood, but one in which he's not going to try to kill Anatoly or throw chessboards in his face or anything.

"Pictures. From a few years ago. And some things that didn't happen."
