"You are... just returning?" It's just a theory without proof. He has no real cause to be anything but glad for those who can come and go, but the part of him that's still human can't help the occasional twinge of resignation or jealousy or both.
He masks it well, though. He always does.

But since he did speak, Jack turns to him, the hem of his greatcoat flapping against his legs as he walks.
"No. Just ... checking." He jerks his head back towards the portal room door.
"I like to know what my options are."

"You are... able to leave?" People seem to have varying amounts of success with that, although not everyone wants to leave. Some feel perfectly at home and that... is enviable, as far as he's concerned. It's been more than thirty years since he felt he belonged, and he doubts he'll ever feel as if he does again.
For the moment he keeps pace easily with Jack as he walks. They're the same height, which... well, it's almost a relief to no longer be the tallest one in the room.
He misses his friends and making new ones is not so easy for him. Here, he has acquaintances. It's not the place of one walking in a state of atonement and repentance to ask for more, so he doesn't.
At least not most of the time.

He looks back over his shoulder to the portal room, briefly, and shakes his head. He may yet come to regret the decision he makes each day not to return to Cardiff. If MPU capriciously decides to take away the option he currently enjoys to return to 2008, it will be another regret for him to have about this place.
But he has the feeling of unfinished business in this place, and that's a feeling he has learned to respect. He has far too many abandoned, unfinished obligations in his life to want to turn his back on other people who may need him.
Especially after the blackout proved that the Dragons are not yet finished with the hotel denizens.
"I don't trust it to stay that way, though."
