I have to say that the book cover on the left in that photo -- the one with the clock and dagger and all of that... Horrible. I would never buy a book with that cover. To me that is the perfect example of how not to sell a book. I know they say don't judge a book by its cover, but in this particular case, I'd not be able to NOT do just that!
I wouldn't either if I hadn't known what I was buying. I actually have that copy signed. But I only bought it knowing it was an original run.
And I hate the expression "don't judge a book by it's cover". People who say they don't have to be lying. It is in human nature to be attracted by sight whether it is another person, a book or a rug. That is why it is so important to make things visually pleasing if you hope to sell them.
The original cover is so old school and something I would probably just have passed by. It's like movie posters they're supposed to grab your attention.
