Lavender had been in the art room for at least two hours by this time, and she was still working on the exact piece of art that she had begun so long ago. Everything was nearly stone silent until she heard the voice of someone much younger then either Jack or Sean, which caused her to turn in her seat. "Hello Jeb."

Cain had explained that she would be getting the added benefit of Jeb for her guards, though he had left out why - Lavender had already assumed what it was. It was no secret that the Cain men liked Gale women, and while it bothered her in the sense of how things would turn out should both men actively propose, she knew that you loved who you loved.

"Your father told me you'd be joining my guards," She explained at the slight pale look on the boys face, clearly he was scared to death.

Well, on the bright side, the Queen was a calm, normal human being. This could be worse. He could be watching over the newbies at the shooting range, for instance, in which case Jeb probably would have ended up shooting one of them for being hopelessly incompetent ( ... )

He was very awkward, and whether that had to do with the nature of his reassignment or just in general she wasn't sure. "You can come sit if you want, they are far too stubborn to do so." With that Lavender offered a wink at Jack who simply cracked a smile in her direction.

"If you would like to be silent that is fine but I am open for talks." Lavender had spent far too long in the silence of the globe that the witch had her confined too and too much time holding her strength as high as it would keep her.

She spoke, pulling his attention away from one of the more intricate landscape paintings hanging practically across the room. He could recognize it as the view from the upper palace balcony with the sun setting or rising. "Oh, no thanks. I'm fine."

From a sitting position, he wouldn't be able to get at his gun as quickly if, god forbid, something were to happen. Of course where they were, unless the attack came in through the window, chances were nothing would happen, but Jeb wasn't eager to disappoint his father again.

"Okay," though he wasn't sure what to talk about, he did want to get a steadier footing around the Queen. Pausing, he wandered up to a smaller painting on the wall of an ash growing by a pond, and an odd pang of longing hit him. It looked quite a bit like the view from the home where he'd grown up. "Who painted all of these?"Of course, Jeb's knowledge of art extended as far as the several paintings around that cabin and sketches from the resistance members.
