Feeling (Not So) Good

Throughout the day he had done well in not spurring any anxiety about the visitor he and Spock would receive later, going through his courses with the same ease and nonchalance he usually did. Sybok even stopped by the store for some fresh milk (two gallons, because whether he was baking or not, it disappeared before he could get his own glass ( Read more... )

Leonard found the apartment readily enough, not sure why he was surprised at how well-off the area was. The little digging he'd done into Spock's background had told him that the family had money. That didn't affect Leonard's view of Spock in any way, but it did make him wonder why this son of an Ambassador was here working on Earth when he could be doing great things with his own people.

He couldn't find much about the brother, which might have been perfectly normal... but with the little bit of information Spock had shared, it left Leonard wondering what his story was, and why he had been asked to come to their home.

Pressing the chime at the door, he rocked on his heels, waiting to be let in. He hoped that the shirt and jeans were not too casual, but he hoped that his relaxed look might put Spock's brother more at ease.

Spock looked up from his work, then looked to his brother, who didn't seem too enthusiastic to get up and answer the door. Ever-patient, however, Spock rose from his seat and answered it himself.

"Doctor," he greeted him with a nod, and then stepped aside to permit him through the doorway and into the lounge. "Good evening."

At least, he noted, Sybok was polite enough to stand when Leonard entered, as apprehensive as he must have felt.

"Commander," Leonard replied, feeling oddly formal despite (or maybe because of) the relaxed setting. Both men were also dressed casually, but this felt far from a social call. "Feeling more rested since our midnight chat?"

He could see the resemblance in the men, though when looking at them Sybok's Vulcan-ness seemed more pronounced. "Good to meet you," he said, two steps in Sybok's direction. "Name's Leonard McCoy."

"I have slept for longer periods, fortunately," Spock said, and then went back to his seat at the table, intent on finishing whatever he had started.

And leaving Sybok to manage the conversation against the doctor alone, brat. "Sybok," he offered, and he would have moved to shake hands if his brother wasn't here. Sensibilities, all that. "Spock tells me you can clear people for active duty?"
