Haven't these people ever heard of continuities and ongoing processes as matters for the historian's interest?

Historians are always keen to identify key turning points: decisions that significantly alter subsequent events.

In context, this seems much more about the desire of meedja types to find some pin to pivot their programmes on - if it's not ( Read more... )

well, looking at long term campaigns and gently shifting perspectives and changes which seem to have all the momentum of a glacier is boring, whereas looking at the pivotal points is interesting, donchaknow. Nevermind the fact that pivotal moments occur against a background of slower movements...
