Reading below the line on CiF is a compulsion. You know what will be said, and who will say it, and you *still* just can't help yourself.

Particularly depressing given that Cochrane's column yesterday was all about how the Olympics offer the opportunity for women to be seen as achievers rather than shopping obsessed WAGs.

I'm still in recovery from the wretched "three blonds in a boat" coverage of the Yngling class sailing in Atlanta. Why, o why?

Sorry, make that Athens, not Atlanta.
Moreover, since two of the sailors are the same and the third is also blonde, they're using the same expression AGAIN!

Oh, and I've just discovered to my disgust that the beach volleyball has a mandated size for the women's bikinis. You're not actually allowed to cover up more. While the men can wear baggy shorts and vests????

So the wrong partner on some biological level as opposed to a "likes the stuff I like" level...

Pass me a cod.

My MHC type is "cod", clearly. aquaeri August 15 2008, 11:44:26 UTC
I'm at a total loss why this research is being reported as new. I did my PhD on the MHC in the 1990s, and I therefore followed the MHC/smell/mate attraction stuff. Craig Roberts (if you visit his web page) does say he's "re-investigating", and apparently getting the same results as the papers I was reading in the 1990s ( ... )

Oh, that rings a bell! The stuff about the T-shirts came up at the Menstruation conference I went to a few years back (the one that was held in a round red lecture-theatre...) and I think I had come across it before somewhere.

I quite agree that the jury remains out on how great a weight this sort of thing bears in actual person-to-person situations. Especially in the light of the work on female desire that suggests that for many women the physical urge exists within a complex network of other physical and emotional stuff.
