Having commented in response to comments on yesterday's post, which included some brief discussion on the recent research which found (and are we surprised?) that men talk as much as women, I had some further thoughts about why there is the perception that OMG Wymmynz - they B takin ovah teh Rt of convers8ion.

To men, means, 'laughs at my jokes'; to women, means, actually, you know, amusing. (And not just about telling jokes rat-a-tat.)

I remember reading that TV viewers react to a show with equal numbers of male and female characters as though there are more women. Perceived equality is at about 60% male. Maybe the same ratio holds in conversation.

And in lots of conversations, the Smurfette Principle applies.
