1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Wrote a teeny piece of fanfic (Mitford-verse)
Was appointed a PhD thesis supervisor (though candidate has had to go on hiatus)

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Don't think I made any

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

*snicker* I have to admit, my "personal fashion concept" for this year was something like "Can I fit into it? Great. I'll take two." Which has meant a lot of miscellaneous knitwear.

Have you mentioned on your journal the subject of the unflensed biography?

This year I published (written some time ago, but delayed) a 40,000 word monograph in my area of specialism and it took a hell of a lot longer than a month, so am in appalled admiration of you.

Also, met Lionel Shriver in April and thought she was decidedly odd. Besides telling me more than once that one of the less likeable minor characters in We Need to Talk About Kevin bears my name, she wore, indoors, in a hot bar, a pair of white cotton gloves. I couldn't figure out if she had some form of skin disease, or was channelling her inner Michael Jackson. I bear with her self-righteous and self-aggrandising Guardian column for the sake of the next novel, which I hope may be combine the good elements of WNtTAK with a less corrosively unpleasant theme.

I probably have, but not recently: Stella Browne (1880-1955) British socialist feminist sex reformer and reproductive rights activist. I've managed to reduce the verbiage quite a lot already, but still have a way to go.
