Well, I'll get the bad stuff out of the way first:

Too much health bother, none of it (ultimately) serious but more than I like, from the itching episode early in the year, the three bouts of lurgi sufficient to keep me off work for a week or more at a time, and the 'appointment for additional tests' most recently, which may have come out all clear ( Read more... )

Funny. I have very fond memories of my semester of syntax. (I didn't take dedicated morphology or phonology classes, so perhaps I'd've liked them even better.)

I bought wild_irises the Decca Mitford letters and then ended up buying another copy because I wanted my very own. What an extraordinary person she was.

I'd watch out for the glasses of angel. There are dangers in those ardent spirits.

Fifty words a month in a savings account sounds about right; you'll have something when you run dry. But if I were you I'd go to academia every day except Sunday!
