Personally, I've always thought the Tyranny of 'It's Just a Joke, Have You No Sense of Humour?!!11!' as an excuse for any kind of behaviour, however unpleasant, is much more of a problem (as I seem to recall CS Lewis, who was never going to win any prizes for PC-ness even in his own context, pointing out at one point in Screwtape).
