He had mixed feelings when it came to Heather, now. She'd said she'd be back but he'd started to get the picture that she wasn't intending to keep that promise. Maybe she had before, but she wasn't anymore. Sometimes he thought he hated her for it. Other times he just wanted her back. He felt so alone.
He went to open the door when she knocked, rubbing his eyes. He'd showered because he knew she was coming over. "Hey," he said, trying not to show any emotion.

She looked at him for a moment before taking Carly inside, setting the carrier on his couch. He'd showered, she noticed. His hair was still damp and she had to bite her lip when she turned away from him. God damn him for still looking sexy and disheveled.
"I left an extra set of clothes this time," she told him, hands in the pockets of her skinny jeans. Carly was staying an extra day with him.
