-43- [Video]

[You can only see Capa's hands in this video, as well as the top of the desk. He's playing with a glass rattleback, but hasn't gotten around to spinning it yet.]

I wasn't the type of kid to play with dinosaur figures or collect the cards. I preferred telescopes. [Pause.] Newton's Cradles, magnets, gyroscopes. But these things...they were always ( Read more... )

Have you experimented with it on deck?

I actually haven't.

It's unlikely the effect will change, but there is some slim chance. The, atmosphere of the barge must end at some point.

[Yes, he's saying atmosphere, when he means magic.]

Hm. Now I'd like to find out. I doubt there would be much of a change either but...a slim chance is better than no chance at all.

That's amazing!

It's physics.

It's still quite amazing.

Oh, I agree. But anything that behaves in a manner opposite of what I expect is amazing for a while.

I would be impressed if you could find scientific explanations for the more dramatic "magical" phenomena we see on the barge.

I'm not here to impress you, unfortunately. But I'm working on finding out.

Have you made and breakthroughs yet?

Shouldn't you be...resting or...something?

Sometimes it's better not knowing how it works.

It's never better to be ignorant.

I don't know. I think maybe it is sometimes. Rarely, but on very specific topics.. Whatever.

Cool thing.

Whatever?

I like it. It took me quite a while to understand it.

I'm assuming there was no difference on deck? The Barge's 'atmosphere' seems to extend at least that far.

None whatsoever. [He shows her the notebook with the data he collected with Sherlock, comparing the results both on the deck and inside his cabin.] I thought as much, but we took it as far out on the railing as we could without putting ourselves at an unnecessary risk.

Well. At least you looked. And for the sake of our health, whatever that's worth here, it's probably better that the Barge has more in common with Earth than space.

Of course I looked. It was a legitimate question.

Though I wonder what differences could be accomplished in the CES. The night sky isn't always an Earth sky.
