Caught completely off guard, Haruhi barely had half a second to gasp in shock as Hikaru collided with her abruptly, sending them tumbling down onto the polished floor. Legs entangled, arms akimbo, Haruhi’s expression was one of utter shock as she found her lips were pressed quite firmly to Hikaru’s.

Kaoru made a low noise in the back of his throat. “Guess I pushed too hard,” he murmured unrepentantly, eyelids at half-mast as he surveyed the mishap of his own machinations. Sometimes, to support his brother, he really did push him to new levels.

They seem to be frozen in shock,” Kyoya opined, adjusting his glasses impassively.

“Tama-chan isn’t moving,” Hani pointed out, tugging on his catatonic kohai’s sleeve in an attempt to rouse him from his stark disbelief. Mori said nothing and wondered idly if it might rain today on the way home from school... he hoped not, Hani hadn’t brought his umbrella.

They all twitched as Tamaki snapped out of his rather comatose stillness and promptly grabbed Hikaru by a shoulder and flung him from Haruhi with a strength Tamaki only seemed capable of when Haruhi’s lips were in danger. With one possessive arm around Haruhi’s shoulders, Tamaki pointed at Hikaru rather angrily.

“How dare you do the trip-gag!”

“Huh?” Hani asked naively as he looked to Kyoya for an explanation.

Renge, who no one had even seen enter the club room, chose that moment to interject into the conversation, Book of Moe clutched to her chest tightly. “This! This is the archetypal anime flag of mutual interest later in the series! Two characters collide and end up in a startled lip lock!” At this point, the sheer forbidden moe overwhelmed their resident otaku and she collapsed onto the chaise lounge. Kaoru absently fanned her with her notebook of moe.

Hikaru, picking himself up from the floor, poked his tongue out at Tamaki.

“That,” Haruhi muttered, tapping her chin thoughtfully, “hasn’t sempai already done that?” Suspicion laced her tone. “So that was a ploy?”

Tamaki remembered the incident all too well, there was no way he could ever forget that accidental brushing of his lips against Haruhi’s.

Haruhi’s eyes clouded with distrust and for the second time that day, Tamaki embraced his depression, slinking away to his corner. Kaoru and Hikaru donned expressions of evil contentedness.

“Tama-chan and Hika-chan still have a lot to learn,” Hani commented, “Huh, Takashi?”

Mori blinked sagely. “Hn.”
