Drabble Challenge #29 Luck -- "Kit Kat"

Mar 05, 2010 09:28

Title: Kit Kat
Rating: General
Genre: Also General, but leaning toward fluff.
Pairings or Characters: Kasanoda Ritsu/Sendo Tetsuya
Warnings: Just boy fluffiness.
Summary: While everyone at the Kasanoda residence wants their Young Master to do well, Tetsuya perhaps wants a little more.

Note: I remember reading once a while back an article on Wikipedia that said Kit Kat was a popular gift around exam time in Japan because how it was said in Japanese sounded vaguely like something you'd say to wish someone luck. When this challenge came up, for some reason that thought came instantly to mind and I just started writing. Word count came in at 499, not including the title. Whether or not the above superstition is true or just wiki-bs, please enjoy!

It had certainly started innocently enough.
A Kit Kat bar placed upon his desk, lined up carefully beside his study notes, greeted him that evening when he came home from school. He picked the gift up, noticing a small note placed beneath it. The words 'Do well, Young Master' were written on it in Tetsuya's precise letters. Ritsu smiled in spite of himself as he sat down with his textbooks, absently breaking a stick off and poking it into his mouth. It was a harmless superstition for good luck, or so he had thought at the time. Nothing he did though ever went unnoticed by his men, as Ritsu should have realized.
The next day amidst a flurry of furtive glances he'd discovered another chocolate bar awaiting him in his jacket pocket. A third was packed with his lunch. A fourth dropped out of his umbrella as he grabbed it, just as he stepped on a fifth tucked into his left shoe.
Ritsu frowned, a full blown scowl starting to form across his face. He threw his bag on the floor, yanking the candy bar from inside of his shoe before jamming his foot back into it. Reaching for his bag he noticed with disbelief that the clasp had come open and the bag was filled to the top with chocolate bars. The redhead could feel his eye start to twitch.
"You should relax, Young Master." came Tetsuya's familiar voice from behind him. The servant boy held a broom and dustpan in his hands, and a smile was on his face. "The guys just want to see you do well in your finals."
"You're the one who started this," Ritsu accused, casting an icy glare at the other boy while his hands started to subconsciously unwrap the chocolate bar.
Tetsuya shrugged. "Was I supposed to wish for you to fail miserably?" he asked amicably.
"Fine, I get it." Ritsu grunted, breaking off one bar of the Kit Kat and sticking it half into his mouth. "This is dumb. How am I supposed to eat this much chocolate by myself?" he murmured around the sweet.
Tetsuya's smile widened into a smirk. "Maybe I can help." he chuckled, backing Ritsu into a corner with a predatory stare. He raised up and forward on the balls of his feet, closing his mouth over the free end of the candy bar just until their lips were almost touching. Ritsu could feel his heart practically convulsing in his chest.
With a little grunt Tetsuya savagely bit off his half of the bar and turned away, laughing to himself. "After all, I could stand to get lucky myself." he said archly.
Not sure if he was being teased or if Tetsuya meant what he'd said, Ritsu turned and fled.
Waiting patiently on his desk when he got home from school was not the Kit Kat bar that he'd expected, but a bag of Hershey's Kisses.
Despite feeling embarrassed, Ritsu couldn't help but smile. Lucky, indeed.
