When I heard of Gov. Sanford's "hike on the Appalachian trail" (which will now enter my gallery of non sequitur euphemisms), my first unworthy thought was:

"But in these hard economic times, couldn't he have found a qualified American for that job?"

I remember an article in the Economist, back after the Berlin Wall had just come down, noting that the West German prostitutes were complaining bitterly about the East German prostitutes undercutting their prices.

he didn't lie back and think of his country.

on a more serious observation, how could any gay marriage show more contempt for the sacredness of the instituion than the GOP leadership is currently demonstrating?

Nope, I've got nothing. I thought Olbermann's monologue after Prop 8 went down in flames was pretty solid. Now, if he'd just done it before the election...
