I would encourage finding other doctors. I have since gave up the idea of speaking with doctors about it myself, but I met a therapist who was very open to the idea of being androgynous. She was part of the reason I decided that just transitioning socially (slightly) and to myself (completely) to a separate gender would be all right.

and you were allowed surgery? evelxxs April 1 2010, 20:19:24 UTC
cause I have transitioned socially but didn't want too, I had too in order for surgery.
Since I have the surgery coming up soon, I'm not sure I will want to dress everyday after, I mean it was hard to dress up everyday the last two years so I did most of the time but not all of it, but also after surgery I think i might not feel the dread of having to work with what I have, so i might dress everyday? but I wonder if the surgery will even have that big of an impact because i've been on hormones and I feel like me still?

The thing is I have gone thru most of the process(transitioning) and am afraid to stir the waters before the first surgery, also money is hard to come by(understatement) with what I do want (electrolisis) than third I am at the VA hospital getting all of it done and I feel like it's helping pave the path for the next ex-soldier who served and deserves access???

At first they had nothing to do with me just wanted me on antidepressants but I insisted on therapy after much work I found one who wanted to learn about transgender ( note therapist and Doctors here work together but may not agree) so she has been great, and with her we she sarted a lgbt group at the VA and may even change some policies.

so that's not only effecting me if I open my mouth?

Get up on your soapbox about how unenlightened that attitude is? Ask them if they seriously believe the only thing that makes a girl a girl is a pair of chesticles? If they want to invalidate the whole concept of non-binary gender and insist that you are what your body makes you and nothing else?
Maybe raging isn't the answer to your query, but I wouldn't be able to resist it.
If they really are that ignorant, go to another doctor and tell them exactly why.

well evelxxs April 2 2010, 02:54:01 UTC
your right, but the endo thinks if I'm not wearing makeup and earrings I'm not a girl, and fighting with her is like spitting on a brick wall to tear it down. and if I was not to wear makeup and dress up to my appointment she will take away all the hormones. my hormones are free thru the VA and she is the only one that would even give them to me (barely) and I live in utah (mormon prominent state, anti-gay anti-everything sometimes)

I can't pay for another doctor!

Hi.

I found this group while looking for info for a friend. I wanted to post to you to show you my support.

I am a femme dyke and only wear makeup and heels for special occasions. I wear post earrings and rarely wear other jewelry.

There are def ppl out there who dress more casual like you prefer. Maybe show your doc some photos that depict the type of person you are. If that doesn't work maybe you can tell her that you don't wear makeup etc for religious reasons.

I wish all the best for you.

Danyel
