When Draco is captured, he tries to appear strong and refuses to cave to the torture, but he is really just a scared little boy. He has erased his own memory so they can't use Veritaserum on him, and he doesn't have any of his experience anymore. All Draco knows to do is to not let himself surrender, the way his father taught him.
Draco remains a prisoner until the war is over. After his rescue, he sees Blaise, and though he doesn't remember, Draco knows instantly that Blaise is important. His mind was erased, but his feelings couldn't be.
