When Sirius sees that rat with the Weasleys, he knows that he must escape Azkaban and track Wormtail down. Wormtail had tricked him the first time and laid the blame on him, but Sirius will get revenge for himself as well as for James and Lily and little Harry. He isn't going to let the rat roam free when he, the truly innocent one, is locked in Azkaban, decaying into some thing. Sirius will actually commit the crime he is imprisoned for this time, and damn anyone who stands in his way because he'll stop at nothing to kill Wormtail.
