You think that's bad, just wait a couple years when my old German students get to college. We were talking about the Wall coming down on the anniversary when I realized none of them were born yet in Nov 89. The concept of East and West Germany was a strange to them as the concept of a united Germany had been to me as a child. I tried explaining it (and the Cold War as a matter of course), but I don't think they really understood. I think they just thought I was old. I almost feel bad that they missed something as incredible as the Wall coming down and understanding what that meant. emily

Imagine having to explain the Great War to them!
I mention this because I tried doing this for my brother the other day, and it was very very difficult.
also, why do kids never get to read the real speeches, or hear them, in history class? Wilson's "The World must be made safe for democracy" pronouncement is WAY better than most textbooks' describing what Wilson said. grumble.
