The prisoners stood before the planet's sanctioning body awaiting sentence.

"Just what is the penalty for 'aggressive disruption of the space-time continuum'?" whispered Rose.

"Trust me," replied the Doctor. "You don't want to know."

Finally, the President of New 'Dega stood. "Before we pronounce your sentence," he said. "We have one final question."

"Yes?" said the Doctor.

"How fast do them things go?"

"Er...pardon?"

"Them blue boxes. See, we have a proposition for you. If you and your machine can beat forty-two of our finest warriors in a test of speed and endurance, we might just be able to let you and your companion there off with a fine and a stern warning."

The Doctor considered for a moment. "That...sounds fair," he said at last. "What do you think, Rose?"

Rose smiled. "I want to go fast."
