Summary: The morning after, Dean and Castiel must deal with the choices they made.
Castiel could only watch in wonder at how easily Dean was already manipulating their hours old bond, instinctively seeking it out whenever his dreams threatened to take a turn for the worse. When the first sign of a nightmare had cropped up, he'd quickly soothed it away, using their now fully completed bond to do so as gently as possible, not wanting to wake his hunter prematurely. Apparently that had been all that Dean's subconscious mind had needed to become aware of it and to decide to utilize it. As the night had gone on, his human had fallen ever deeper into his slumber to the point where Dean was more relaxed and unaware of his surroundings then he had ever seen him.
Despite Dean's multiple admonishments over time, Castiel had spent the entire time watching his new bondmate sleep. Dean was still comfortably ensconced up against him and now no longer even stirred when he gently touched his hunter's face. The instinctive trust and acceptance that signified made him even more confident that he had made the right choice in deciding to complete their bond. The other sign was how incessantly Dean kept tugging at their new bond, greedily soaking up all the love and assurances he gave his human.
His human.
His earlier feelings of possessiveness were back and now that he'd actually claimed his hunter, Castiel found that he could no longer suppress them as before. This had surprised him when it had first happened, catching him off-guard enough that it had leaked out over the bond before he could prevent it, but that was when he'd had his next real shock. Instead of shying away from it or reacting defensively, Dean had soaked it up as greedily, indeed if not more greedily, as the other emotions he'd shared with his bondmate. Not only that, but his human had tugged at it, as if wanting more, a desire that had only seemed to be satisfied when he'd stopped trying to restrain himself and allowed his little hunter to feel the full extent of the claim an angel felt towards the human they had taken.
"So precious," Castiel murmured as he simultaneously stroked Dean's face and his soul. "So complicated."
Based on all of the behavior that he'd seen from his hunter, Castiel would never have expected Dean to react so favorably to that type of claim. Humans were such complicated and contradictory creatures and none more so than his new bondmate. The permission he'd been given so freely, even if unconsciously, was something he'd never forget and a right he would take to the fullest extent possible. Just the thought that Dean had lain with not one, but two others just a short while ago, mere hours actually, was almost more then he could bear and he had to forcibly restrain himself from visibly staking his claim on his new bondmate. Dean had merely been trying to save his own life, nothing more.
From now on, however, there would be no others. Angels didn't share and Castiel would make sure that Dean understood that. His bondmate could have whatever he desired, but it would come from him and no one else. He shared those emotions along with his determination across their bond and felt his human pounce on them in a way he knew wasn't entirely normal. The realization that Dean's upbringing was responsible for this deep-seated and seeming insatiable need made him incredibly angry at John Winchester in a way he'd never thought possible. To think that his bondmate had been treated with anything other then the reverence, love and attention Dean so rightfully deserved infuriated him even as he pulled his hunter closer to him.
Well all of that ended now. During one of their exchanges, Castiel had felt enough through their bond to know that Dean had not been lying when he'd expressed a longstanding interest in him and he would show his bondmate what it meant to be loved and wanted. Not only that, but he would ensure that his hunter understood that he would always be there and that Dean would never be alone again.
Eventually his human started to stir, coming awake so slowly and so languidly that Castiel almost feared that something was wrong. In all of his times observing Dean sleep, his bondmate had awakened quickly and been alert instantly. Now that wasn't the case. It took him a while to realize that Dean now simply felt too safe to cast off sleep that quickly. It was fascinating to watch, his hunter mumbled and shifted as his mind incrementally pulled itself from the blissful oblivion of sleep. Inevitably, his bondmate reached a point where he was sufficiently awake to realize that something wasn't as it used to be and his eyes snapped open, though he prevented his human from jerking upright.
"Cas?" Dean questioned as soon as their eyes met.
The speed and ease with which his bondmate's fear left him pleased Castiel and he resisted stroking the precious soul, not wanting to startle his little hunter. "Dean."
"What's going on? What happened?"
"What do you remember?"
/
It took Dean a surprisingly long time to get his mind to work as it seemed to want to just bask in the warmth of the angel he lay pressed up against and the haze of sleep that somehow still hadn't quite left him. The fact that he was both naked and pressed up against an equally naked angel, however, spurred him on and the memory of the hunt and the curse quickly came back to him. He groaned, burying his face in Castiel's shoulder, as he recalled both the woman and the guy he'd fucked as well as how neither of those two acts had met the requirements of the curse.
Things got hazy very quickly after that and it took Dean some time to recall exactly how Castiel had entered the picture and then the angel's assessment of the situation and how to break the curse. He froze in place as the word 'penetration' came back to him and a quick flutter of fear filled him but vanished almost just as quickly though he didn't know how or why. Instead of worrying about that, he steeled himself and flexed the muscles of his ass experimentally. Sure enough, he got back the weirdest... burn-like sensation he'd ever felt.
The stunned shock Dean felt seemed to almost trigger the rest of his memories somehow and he quickly pushed himself up enough so that he was looking down at Castiel with wide eyes. The angel's hands, which had been running over his back, dropped to his hips but even that action wasn't enough to distract him as his throat worked soundlessly for a few moments before he could finally speak.
"Married?" Dean demanded, his voice far higher then he liked but for once he just ignored it.
He couldn't be recalling that right, could he? It just wasn't possible. Angels couldn't simply tie themselves to humans like that, it had to be a commandment or something. Hadn't there been some big hoopla about angels laying with humans way back when? That whole daughters of man, sons of God thing. Not that he was anyone's daughter, thank you very much, but the essential point remained valid. He was pretty sure that had been some kind of big smite worthy event and all.
"Yes, Dean, or at least the angelic equivalent thereof," Castiel replied calmly, watching him closely. "As I told you last night, I could not take you without completing the bond between us. We are now tied together forever, soul to Grace."
Holy shit!
Dean felt his brain freeze even as his eyes widened and his heart tripped within his chest before speeding up like mad. Tied together forever. He'd seriously fucked up this time and now Castiel was forced to pay the price for it. Why hadn't the angel just let him die? It would have been better for everyone involved and he'd have been unable to wreck things for people even more then he'd already managed to do.
"No, Dean, no!" Castiel declared fiercely, but Dean hardly heard him.
What he did feel were the angel's hands that ran up his heaving sides as he desperately fought off hyperventilation.
"Hush, it's okay, beloved."
Beloved? The word flitted across Dean's mind but hardly registered as he tried to bring himself under control. What the hell had he managed to get himself into this time? Only he could get himself cursed in such a way that he ended up hitched in order to break it. It didn't help that part of him wanted to cheer in joy at the thought of being so permanently tied to Castiel. The angel could never leave him now, not like everyone else had done sooner or later. The rest of him, however, was completely and utterly horrified and disgusted with the first part of himself. How could he possibly be happy with the fact that Castiel had been forced into this type of bond just to save him? It was amazing that the angel hadn't left his pathetic ass to die after all that had happened and how he'd treated the poor guy.
Dean was a dick, he knew that very well, but he'd become far more of one with Castiel after he'd realized exactly what it was that he felt for the angel. He'd known it would never happen and somehow he'd found himself doing all kinds of things to drive his friend away. After all, if he managed to do that, then Castiel couldn't leave him, right?
A sudden wave of love and comfort washed over Dean and he froze, his eyes falling shut as the sensations overwhelmed him completely. A desperate little noise escaped him as the two emotions became his world and he was rocked to his core at the strength and depth of it all. Vaguely he was aware of the hands that still moved over his body, seeking to soothe and reassure, but his main focus was on this... this whatever it was that touched him so very deep inside of himself that he'd never have thought it possible. The caress of love kept up and he arched and trembled, completely helpless in the wake of such a divine purity and all encompassing love that he could hardly comprehend it.
His arms wobbled and buckled, but Castiel caught him like always and Dean felt his whole body relax into the angel's touch. It was a good long while before he could open his eyes and even then only because the touch grew fainter, though the emotions were no less potent because of it. When he finally did manage to open them, he found himself on his back with his angel leaning over him, observing him as always. His breath caught at the raw and naked emotions he saw there and there was absolutely no doubt in his mind that what he'd felt were Castiel's feelings for him. The revelation left him completely shaken and he reached up a trembling hand to touch his lover's face.
"Cas, what... is that?" Dean found it amazingly difficult to string even two words together.
He felt completely open and raw in a way that he never had before in his life. Vulnerable. This was Castiel and angel bonding, which had to mean that what he felt and how it came to him was all via his soul, which meant that he was utterly laid bare before his angel in a way he was sure hadn't happened since Castiel had raised him from Hell. Strangely enough it didn't fill him with the urge to pull away and lash out as it normally would have, though he had no doubt that it was largely due to fact that he could feel exactly how his angel felt about him.
He knew and couldn't quite believe it.
"Yes, Dean, it is the bond between us. It's what makes you mine and I yours."
Another wave of love and comfort, mixed with reverence this time, pulsed through him and Dean reached out for it eagerly, unable to get enough of it or even to make himself believe that any of it was real. It just wasn't possible that someone felt all of this for him. It had to be a lie or a trick somehow. Perhaps the witch hunt hadn't gone quite the way that he thought it had and all of this was merely an illusion?
There was a brief flash of something else within the love and comfort besides reverence and Dean pounced on it instantly. He wasn't sure what he did, but it felt like he was tugging at something and the next thing he knew, his soul was awash in an unbelievably fierce sense of possessiveness and ownership. The abrupt change threw him for a loop and it took him a moment to realize that he was clinging just as tightly to these emotions has he had been to the others. He quickly released his grip, startled and more then a little frightened, not to mention freaked that he wasn't truly freaked at having those types of emotions so clearly aimed at him.
"Dean."
The sound of his name drew Dean back to himself enough that he was able to focus on Castiel as well as all of the emotions bathing his soul. The sight of his lover and the worried expression on Castiel's face was enough to give him pause and to remind him that all of what he now felt was what his angel felt. The moment his complete attention was no longer focused on his soul, he found that it was back to clinging to the possessiveness once more. What the hell? Why would he so instinctively want to have Castiel feel like that about him? It didn't make any sense. He was his own person, damnit, he didn't belong to anyone!
Nor did anyone seem to belong to him.
Before he could stop it, memories of Dad and Sammy walking out on him returned along with Cassie, Lisa and others. No one seemed to stay with him. No, Dean realized in a flash, no one seemed to want to stay with him. The possessiveness tightened around his soul and it pulsed against him, infused with the love and comfort from earlier.
"You're mine, Dean, and I am yours," Castiel promised fiercely in his ear. "I will never leave you, even after you die we will be together in Heaven."
Dean's mouth had gone dry at the words and he suddenly knew why his soul loved the possessiveness and ownership Castiel radiated. They were clear signs of how strongly his angel felt about him and that he never intended to leave him, couldn't do so now even. Castiel's entire decision seemed so very different to him all of a sudden. Instead of choosing to let him die, his lover had made a conscious choice to tie them together forever; to be with him forever. It was the greatest compliment anyone had ever given him and one which he'd honestly never expected to receive, and that back when he'd simply been thinking about human marriage.
He surged upwards, kissing Castiel fiercely and trying to convey all that he felt through it. It took him a moment to realize that he now had another, new means of doing so that didn't require words and he tried to push all of his feelings at the bond he was finally starting to feel between them. If the sudden noise his lover made was any indication, he'd succeeded and the next thing he knew, he was flat on his back on the bed again with a fully aroused angel on top of him.
When the kiss finally ended, Dean was left looking up at Castiel in an odd mixture of wonder, disbelief and awe. "Husband," he whispered, voice trembling.
"Bondmate," Castiel replied, nipping at his jaw.
Since he'd only ever been in this situation once before, and then so fully under the effects of a curse that he hardly remembered any of it, Dean wasn't quite sure what to do, but quickly found that Castiel was more then willing to take the lead. Any thoughts or objections he might have had on the matter vanished instantly as the dual attack on his body and soul began, leaving him nothing but a helpless, writhing mess under his angel's ministrations. Pleasure like he'd never experienced before coursed through him and he could only cling to his lover, husband, bondmate, whatever and hope that it was as good for Castiel as it was for him.
He was so far gone that when two fingers slipped inside him easily, it took Dean a moment to realize that he was still loose and wet from before. The thought that it was Castiel's cum slicking the passage as much as the lube they must have used before made him cry out and his cock jerk, a spurt of precum coating his lover's other hand as it pumped him.
"Cas!" Dean whined, desperate for more.
He could hardly believe it, but for the first time in his life, he really and truly wanted to be fucked. Dean had only snatches of memory from last night, but all of what he did recall was divine and he wanted it again now.
"Cas, please!"
"Hush," Castiel soothed before claiming his lips in a dominating kiss.
Dean knew he was making embarrassing noises, but he couldn't help himself as Castiel's tongue basically fucked his mouth even as the angel's fingers prepped him for his lover's cock. His own tongue came up to play with Castiel's, but he lost all coordination when he finally felt the head of his angel's cock pressing against his entrance. Castiel pulled back just far enough to watch him and he felt completely unable to pull his eyes away as his lover sank into him in one smooth thrust. His eyes then dropped closed as his angel bottomed out and he just tried to get used to the feel of being filled so completely. Between that and the fierce possessiveness that Castiel still radiated, he felt totally owned, but for the first time in his life, he didn't care and instead craved the closeness and knowledge that went with it.
"Mine," Dean declared fiercely, eyes opening once more.
"Mine," Castiel replied, pulling back and thrusting back in sharply.
His whole body arched and he cried out at the pleasure that shot through him. Dean reached out instinctively with his soul even as Castiel set a hard and fast rhythm with his vessel and the combination of soul-to-Grace and body-to-vessel contact was enough to wipe all else from his mind and his whole world narrowed down to the angel riding him and claiming him. He lost all track of time and place until he came right after Castiel, the feel of his lover spilling deep within him sending him over the edge.
The last thing Dean was aware of was of his soul burrowing as deeply as it could into his husband's accommodating Grace and being wrapped in loving and possessive warmth.
A.N.: So much for
The Only Option being a oneshot, but I had been thinking about the morning after since finishing it and then when I saw that one of the other prompts slotted in so nicely with what I'd already written... well, I just couldn't resist! I hope you liked it
