Oh my god, a big heartfelt YES to more AA!derpery. There can never be enough of that. I know realityshifted and taxonomites allow AUs but I haven't really looked deeply into either.

And I'm really sorry about what's been going on at XI. :( It breaks my heart to see the mods so unhappy and the game I loved so dearly be torn apart.

I've not been in the thick of the problems thanks to depression and not being around much, but the game's managing to stay awesome despite the blood in the waters in non-game areas like anoncomm. I have hope for it. 8|b

It's good you haven't gotten caught up in it though the depression not so much, I hope you feel better soon. ♥ Hopefully this whole ordeal won't damage the game too much, I know it turned away quite some potential appers and frankly, myself for a bit too.

Unfortunately it feels that many participants on both side of the debate have either failed to realize, chosen to ignore, or forgotten in their passion that in order to settle issues like this one there needs to be calm rational discussion that shows respect for all sides. I think that both sides have gotten caught up in the idea that they are championing a cause, and forgotten that even then one must show respect in language and action to the other side if they are going to do anything other then further entrench their opposition, and only convince those who already agree with them.

I've seen this sort of thing happen in real life, and it's sad because there's so much potential here to iron out issues and build bridges of understanding, but many times it just results in further fanning the flames of bitterness.

I guess we just have to hope some good can come of it.

Disclaimer: I don't follow anoncomm, so I had to catch up suddenly last night and haven't been personally involved.

It seems to me that the rather irritating 'your argument is invalid because [I've called your tone patronising/you're getting upset about it/that doesn't apply directly to me]' so-called arguments are derailing the discussion at any point where actual progress might have been made.

The problem with that argument of course being that both sides are doing the things they are accusing the other of. Honestly I am of the belief that while getting emotional or hostile certainly does not invalidate your point, it does shut down any real possibility of discourse. Maybe It's because I work with high school students on a daily basis, but I've found keeping cool is always an advantage.

Admittedly that can be really hard in discussions like this, which is why I have a policy of always taking a walk before I post.

I mean it in the sense that whenever someone makes a valid point, the other side - and both sides are guilty of it - dismiss it because of a perceived flaw in the comment's tone, such as being patronising or angry. And thus the discussion comes to a juddering halt as the threads start getting vicious.

Hence the usefulness of your walking tactic. /)_.
