I'm not 'Fully proficient in Quark (I've used it once, about 3 versions of the program ago), and I've also used Illustrator once.

I'll just get fired like Kevin just did.

Can't hurt to try though, at the very least it's more practice for applying for stuff. Be honest and tell them that you're proficient with some, and familiar with the rest and you're a fast learner. Play up the varsity experience you've got and let them know that you'd be willing to work for a trial period (with pay).

Like I said, it can't hurt. End of the day what have you got to lose? In the meantime while you wait to hear back - download those programs (for assessment purposes of course) and get familiar with them.
