As you’ll see, I have a profoundly different view on the Athosian culture than canon does. Beware the big, honking AU label. Everything that is different is also meant to be different ( Read more... )

This is a fabulous story. I love it. I'm so glad that you are updating regularly. I love seeing this take on how things could have gone differently for the expidition. can't wait to see if atlantis is saved. hope it is. Keep up the great work and update soon.

Thank you. :)

I've six more chapters written already, and intend to add one chapter a week, so that people can catch up with the storyline if they want. As it looks, this particular storyline will be completed by Chapter 18 - before we go on with the next one.

I like that Jack et.al. are learning more about the Athosians and their culture and also working with them instead of just unilaterally deciding what to do. It's also nice to see them thinking on how to defeat the Wraith if it comes to that.

I love building the Athosian culture - they're a fascinating people. They're also the ones with actual experience when it comes to the Wraith, so our heroes are doing themselves a favour when listening to them.

I think the Atlantis expedition would have run into serious problems with real life "natives", had they tried to treat them the way they treated the Athosians. The problem was, IMO, that the PTB decided to have Teyla be totally amazed by Sheppard, so that she all but forgot about her duties as the leader of her people. Small wonder the Athosians turned to Halling instead.

I really, honestly hated 1st Season Teyla... well, I liked the character itself, just not the way she was worked. Screenwriters seem to be still completely unable to write strong female characters. Weir was a caricature, too.

Mmm, love the Gwen-bashing in this one. It's just right, not too over-the-top, although I do like that as well. I wonder, though, how long it will be before they have their first encounter with the Wraith.
Excellent chapter. I get a thrill every time I see this has been updated!

Oh, don't worry, there will be a lot more Gwen-bash coming up, some of them even worse. I'm trying to stay believable, though, not to go over the top - that would harm the storytelling.

This particular story arc will have 18 chapters, 15 and a half already written. I'll try to update once a week, so that people won't forget the beginning when they reach the end. *g*

The first encounter - well, sort of - will be in Chapter 7, IIRC, but the first real encounter only comes in Chapter 16. I'm sorry, but this is a long-going story. I want them to form a real community, find allies and whatnot before the bombshell drops.

Yay! Gwen bashing! One of the reasons I dislike Gwen so much is the way she automatically assumes she has the right to demand answers to whatever questions she may have, no matter how personal and private the subject may be. It's also one of the reasons I can't imagine Ianto and Gwen being friends. Gwen in nosy, she pries into things that are none of her business and gets stroppy when people refuse to tell her what she wants to know, while Ianto is intensely private and doesn't talk about himself much. It makes me want to see Ianto tell her she should get herself a dictionary and look up the words 'personal' and 'private' since she obviously doesn't understand what they mean!
Great chapter, and I'm looking forward to seeing the exploration of the city, now they have permission to go there! Will Gwen insist on going with them so she can get herself into even more trouble?

You know, the fun thing is, I don't even have to make considerable efforts to bash Gwen. All I need to do is to write her in-character. *g*

Worry not, she'll get herself - and evryone else into the worst possible trouble before this particular story arc ends.

The city will be great fun... at least I hope so. I had lots of fun imagining it.
