Another great chapter. Trust Gwen to act without thinking about it first.

Btw, if you need any help with translation between Czech and English, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks, that's a very generous offer. It's always been my big regret that I wasn't able to let Radek say things in Czech. He's my absolute favourite. There were times I only watched SGA for him.

It's no problem. I have only seen two or three parts of SGA, so I don't really know what it is, that he usually says but I can translate anything you might need.

Zelenka is made of the awesome - a wonderfully funny charcter and lovable beyond belief. He usually mutters under his breath in Czech when he's angry or excited. The actor says he pretty much improvizes his Czech lines - they tell him what they roughly want him to say, and he just goes with it. *g*

I'm actually rather glad it's been so long since I watched Stargate Atlantis - I'd completely forgotten about the problems caused by turning on all the lights in a city with a limited amout of power! Lucky for them, they have Ianto to organize everyone for emergency evacuation, he'll have everyone ready when the time comes!
Exciting chapter, and Gwen is being very Gwen - acting without involving her brain. I often think she must have had a brain bypass because honestly, does she ever actually think? Removing expensive, irreplaceable equipment and just throwing it aside is typical of her. She probably breaks almost everything she touches! I like Smitty though - is he a Stargate character or an original one?

Smitty is a canon SGA character who had about 5 seconds of screen time in the pilot and was killed off offscreen in "The Brotherhood", together with Markham. I'm not even sure what he looked like, so I recast him with Eric Buskotter from "Tour of Duty". He appears in my various SGA fics, as I'm very fond of him.

Yeah, Gwen is Gwen - can you imagine the shock of the poor boy when she rushed to "comfort" him? With those hypnotic, octopus eyes? *shudders*

A complete stranger lunging at him, babbling in an incomprehensible language, and then grabbing him so tight it must have felt like she was trying to smother him - yeah, that would be really comforting!

Tour of Duty - was that an American show set in Vietnam? If it's the show I'm thinking of, I was rather fond of it - though it was quite a few years ago. Starred Terence Knox I think.

Yep, the very same show. I've also based McKinney on Terence Knox' character. It was an excellent show, and Terence Knox showed the best of his talent in it, I think.

Zeke McKinney is an homage to him, in fact. The character also appears in "Out of Legends" and "Trial Without Error", if you feel up to read something that's definitely not Sheppard-friendly. I loathe Sheppard.

I am amused. This is a fun chapter. Of course, the way you have Gwen acting makes one question why she's even on this mission. Even with the gene, her actions are such that I can't believe they would take her along.

I do like the OCs you've got and the way you're fleshing out other characters. Love Tosh's calmness and ability to think under pressure. And of course, Ianto brought a coffee machine with him. :)

I had great fun writing it. Could barely wait for Gwen to do the compassionate thing - do you think I've gone overboard with her? She's such a badly written character, it's hard to stay subtle with the bashing, but I don't want her to become a caricature.

I'm trying to make this a story where the whole community is important. Yes, it's mostly written from Jack's POV - at least that's what I'm aiming for - but it's *not* the "Jack Harkness conquers the Pegasus Galaxy" show.

I always found Tosh amazing. And Ianto *will* get his chance to give the shiny new coffee machine a trial run... eventually. They'll be there for a loooong time.

I haven't reviewed that chapter yet, I see.

I enjoyed this chapter with the first contact with the Athosians. But what I really loved was the sudden change from wonder at the beauty of Atlantis and the new chances awaiting them to horror. Especially for Jack with the realization he might live to watch everyone else die a violent death.

Yeah, the poor man is being thrown from hot to cold and back again, isn't he?

More Athosian fun in the next chapter that I've just posted. I so love playing with the possible aspects of the Athosian culture, it's such a crying shame that we never got a closer look at it.

*And* that we practically didn't see Halling between Seasons 1 and 5. He'd great promise, just like Teyla, and was wasted, just like Teyla.

Yeah, no one ever gives Jack a breath! He's just too much fun to torture, the poor guy...

Another interesting chapter. I really like the way that they are planning and thinking about what to do. It is much more logical for them to plan to leave Atlantis. Very typical of Gwen to act stupidly - throwing away equipment and scaring the kids. It is also good to see a sensible way of handling the fact that the natives won't speak their language. I look forward to reading more.

I think Gwen would scare the kids by her mere appearance, even without the smothering part. Hell, she'd scare an octopus out of its mind!

Planning is very important. I mean, they're a potential colony, and with kids at that, they *had* to act in a responsible way!
