FOREWORD

This story loosely belongs to my Battlestar Galactica/Original Trek crossover AU-series titled “The Lost Years”, which describes the second five-year-mission of Kirk’s Enterprise. Not many people know, but Gene Roddenberry actually had planned to make a second series with the original cast, and what later became the first movie would have been its pilot.

This story, however, has none of the main canon characters, only a handful of supporting ones. It features a great many OCs, most importantly a well-oiled unit of Starfleet Intelligence, which appears in irregular intervals in the actual series. Basically, this is a complemetary story to the 18th adventure of the “Lost Years” series, a story that is titled “Nemesis” (not to mistaken for the TNG movie).

“Mission to Daleth IV” takes place five years before “Nemesis” - this is the year 2269, the 3rd year if the Origial Series. The members of the SI unit have been inspired by certain lead characters of the series “SeaQuest” but have completely different backgrounds and personalities here, even different names. I only used the visuals (i.e. the actors).

The unit had been working on the Daleth station for three years at the beginning of this story. The idea of the Free Agents of the Federation belongs to Sondra Marshak and her co-writer, I found it in one of the TOS-novels and found it a useful idea.

In the Romulan name-giving, I followed the lead given in Diane Duane’s excellent TOS-novel “The Romulan Way”.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE

I put them behind a tag, in case the readers don't want to spoil the surprise when the true identities of our heroes are revealed.

Commander Jonathan Drake, alias Forrd’hall O’toah Lanheisi Zairn, the CO of the unit (Don Franklin)
Lt. Cmdr. Elena Haiduk, alias Nina Velez, his second-in-command, a very talented engineer (Stacy Haiduk)
Lt. Benito Aguilar, alias Ben Makepeace, their communications expert and resident chameleon (John D’Aquino)
Lt. Miguel Ortiz, alias Diego Sanchez, their weapons expert and field medic (Marco Sanchez)
Yeoman Applegnat, alias Captain Vierchi, their contact and backup (Royce D. Applegate)
Yeoman Dethwe, a clone, their backup and secret weapon (Peter DeLuise)
Lt. Gregory Burt, aka Drreg’holl O’toah Lanheisi Zairn (which is, surprisingly enough, his real name; he only uses the other one for administrative purposes), their expert in all things Romulan and tactical officer (Gregory McKinney)

Sdan, a Free Agent of the Federation, disguised as a mercenary, their unofficial ally (Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa)

S’Bysh, head of the Orion Syndicate ring on the Daleth Station
First, the head of S'Bysh' servants
Second, S'Bysh' main bodyguard

Madame Vithra, owner and leader of the best known local brothel (Iris Berben)
Denkahr, her senior husband on the station
Ishul, her junior husband on the station (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers)
Spiria, her co-wife on the station
Mondral, her chief bodyguard (Lawrence Montaingne)

Arrhae ir’Mnaeha t’Anirieu, called simply Arrhae, a Romulan fugitive, his accountant

Ensign Lamia Ar'Rhaniach, an undercover officer of Starfleet Security.

Cyrano Jones, and independent merchant, whose name is now connected with Tribbles for eternity (Stanley Adams).

Harry Mudd, a shady merchant and con artist, always in trouble but always wriggling himself out of it (Roger C. Carmel).

Commander Thrae, of the Rigelian constabulary, chief administrator and chief of security on Daleth Station (Jay Acovone).

As you can see, most of the characters have been "cast". I hope I'll be able to put up a gallery one day.
