What does he do? I'm pretty sure I've read 'The Stone Rose', but it was quite a while ago, so I don't remember much. I just remember the part when Rose & The Doctor first saw the statue, but that's about it. So, I'm going to really depend on your story here. No background whatsoever. Just simply following your plot. Which is good, I think.

Well I will try to insure that you will find it worth the ride. I have already begun tweaking the plot a bit, so even if you had read the book you would be in the 'dark' (pun intended) hmmm what should I do with 9 in the middle of the night to pass the time?

Then, I'll be following your plot either way. As to what does 9 do during the night, well, I believe that whatever it is that you make him do during the night, it will be quite a mischief, according to the last sentence *grin*

I also haven't read the Stone Rose, so I am also in the dark about the plot! I love that Verity left out running shoes for Rose, and that she still hopefully leaves out era-appropriate clothes for the Doctor, despite all odds :). I feel bad for Vanessa, though, I hope they are able to do something for her. And despite being worried about his "bad feeling" I am curious for the Doctor's mischievous nighttime activities...

Thank you for the feedback, Verity is forever the pragmatic optimist. As to Vanessa before all is said and done she will be much better off then when she starts. There is also more to her than originally meets the eye. As to the Doctor, I think most have has wondered at least once what someone that doesn't sleep much would do in all those hours us humans 'waste' sleeping. One of the most interesting books I ever read contained characters called the sleepless 'evolved' humans that not only didn't sleep but couldn't and explored that idea & how they dealt with the 'normal' humans.
