Mod post: Future of this community

You are all probably aware by now that lots of Livejournal users and communities felt the new Russian terms of service were a final straw and decided to leave Livejournal for good, whether that also include moving over to Dreamwidth or not. My personal feeling is that I would love to follow suit, but I didn't want to make such a decision ( Read more... )

Well, seeing as yours is the only response in more than two weeks (thank you for showing up!), do you have any thoughts about the idea of closing this community to new members and further posting, and trying to point people to either the otherkinarchive (which I could make open) or one of the other similar comms on DW?

I would suggest closing to new posts, members only the entire community archive if you can, and leave a final post pointing to the new stuff.

I don't think retroactively changing post security on the whole community is possible, or at least not practical. The LJ FAQ says you can't do this en masse with a community the same way you can with a personal journal, because only original posters can edit their posts, including security (so that also makes it impossible to do it individually, even if I wanted to face editing 2000+ posts manually).

I saw people talking a few months ago about still being able to use LJ-Sec (which is somewhat of an aging tool) to convert their personal journals, but it kept timing out when I tried to download the community posts and I'm not sure it would work anyway. So I think closing to new is the best we would get.
