I have always been very public about my opinions with how my country is (or in most cases isn't) run. But the recent passage of Republic Act 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act, will muzzle anyone who speaks against the Philippine government anywhere online. You can be charged TWICE: by RA 10175 and by the Penal Code (which funnily is yet to be revised to decriminalize libel) for any post you make online, whenever you posted it. If it's online, if you said it, Liked it on Facebook, Tweeted, tumbled, it can be used to put you in prison.

This is a devastating, and infuriating blow to all Filipinos' freedom of expression.

Freedom of expression isn't just about saying TITO SOTTO HAS A TINY DICK AND CAN'T WRITE ANYTHING ORIGINAL, or CHIZ ESCUDERO IS A SLIMY LYING FAKE CONNIVING LIAR. It's about the freedom to criticize our government, without fear of reprisal.

To me, the ability and freedom to criticize and express discontent are important to any society, if that society wishes for its government to continually become better.

I will not be quieted by any of those senators, our sitting-duck president, or anyone who tries to infringe on our freedom to air our grievances, to ask for a better country, or a better government.

And I suggest that if you have any platform online- a blog, a twitter account, something on tumblr- you get mad along with me. It's our responsibility to be vigilant against threats from our own self-serving government.

Our rights are at stake here, not some senator's pathetic ego.
