Why does family have to be so fucked?

I have yet to respond to my dad, I'm waiting for my sister to call me this afternoon so we can discuss it.

Overall, though, it has been much less traumatic than I would have ever thought. Thank goodness!

Wow, that's rather astonishing that your brother and sister came across your post. And it's crazy that you managed to track down your father as well. I'm happy for you that it happened this way because this is what you wanted and you were able to control the situation for yourself.
I can't even begin to image how hard it would be not knowing who your father was for all that time. My family background is really, painfully messy so I'd rather not go into detail - but I know what it's like having no control over the dealings with your parents. It's not nice (even if you know it's for the best).
But that's wonderful that you've developed a relationship with your sister and brother. It sounds like you have a really lovely relationship with them now :):)
