Ahh, yes. :-)

First, some prerequisite backstory from another entry (about an unrelated topic):Y'see, back in high school, I had no social skills, and I knew it. While my friends were out on Saturday nights, doing...well, doing whatever it was that they did while they were out, I guess...I'd be at home, either studying or playing video games. And that was it.

I was eventually befriended by one of the more social, popular guys in my class. He and another friend worked their way into the nearby Catholic girls' high school, and at the age of sixteen, I was suddenly thrown into a crowd of single teenage girls.

And I didn't have the slightest idea what to do.
Once I was thrown into said crowd of single teenage girls, I suppose it was sort of inevitable that I ended up going out with my best friend's girlfriend's best friend. Double dates were convenient and easy, and the additional couple made it easier to relax and get past the social awkwardness and inexperience that accompanied a one-on-one situation.

So, over there was Robert and Kym, and here...well, here was Kate. I was seventeen (or perhaps an old sixteen), she was fifteen (or perhaps even an old fourteen). Kate had long wavy blonde hair, blue eyes, and a thin face. I really can't remember much else, beyond the fact that all her blouses had huge shoulder pads in them. (What can I say, it was the mid-eighties, and that was the state of fashion at the time.)

One night we were at her parents' house, watching TV. Her parents weren't home (I think they may have even been out of town), her brother was down in the basement, and at one point we began to make out, softly, gently, on the couch. I was exceedingly nervous, as I'd never kissed a girl "with intent" before, and it showed.

Our relationship (if you can even call it that) didn't last very long. In retrospect, it was clearly a relationship based more on convenience and proximity than attraction or mutual interests. I learned a few important lessons on dating, but that was really about it.

And that, in a nutshell, was my first kiss.

My "second kiss" (that is, first kiss with second girl) was considerably more interesting. But that, as they say, is a story for another time. ;-)
