Torchwood: Miracle Day (Episode 2) Thoughts

Jul 18, 2011 11:01

So I'm going to start of by saying that I was a bit underwhelmed with the first episode of Miracle Day. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the episode to me, just a bit too much generic "action" for the Torchwood I'd come to known. Yes, the original two seasons of Torchwood were incredibly cheesy and ridiculous at times, but that was part ( Read more... )

This post basically sums up how I feel. I liked the first episode alright, but it was so much exposition that I found myself not exactly on the edge of my seat. Episode 2 got things rolling a bit more even if the plot didn't move by leaps and bounds, because we got to see the new characters interact with the old a bit more and move away from the basic WUT R TORCHWOOD exposition.

And yeah, while I am finding Rex kind of bland and often poorly acted at this point, I am loving all the ladies. I've gone from disliking Gwen back in s1 and s2 to appreciating her in s3 and adoring her in s4, Esther's obvious impending arc (what was it her friend says? "one day you'll have to pick a side'?) intrigues me, Dr Juarez is awesome, and Jilly is fantastic -- in her two scenes she stole the show for me, basically.

I mentioned how RTD works best with characters rather than plot. Perfect example. I don't even care at this point why Jack was poisoned; all I know is that it gave us this beautiful scene. Would all those things actually work as an ( ... )

Yeah... I understand why they had to do that, but at the same time I was like "Yeah I know all this already, mysterious British organization founded by Queen Victoria the Werewolf, blah blah..." I also think the casting is kind of interesting because the original casting call was for a white guy to play Rex and a POC actress to play Esther who ( ... )

Thank you! I love reading reactions as well and hadn't seen very many at all after watching this episode, so I decided to make one of my own. It's like a way to revisit all the best parts of an episode without having to watch the entire thing. xD

The SUV/Rubbish line was especially fun for me since I live in practically the only part of the US that actually uses the word "rubbish" in our daily vocabulary.

I love John and Eve together so very much :)

Psst, Alexa Havins is playing Esther Drummond. Lauren Ambrose is playing Creepy PR Lady.
