Wow, talk about whiplash. Anyway, this fic just kind of settled into my head and wouldn't go away.

Wordcount: approx. 370
Warning: language, sexual themes
Summary: I should've known that he was gay. Codex's POV.

Codex’s Bro

Now that I think about it, we didn’t really talk much.

I mean, after we moved in together (how had that happened, anyway?), we kind of just asked “What do you want for dinner?” and “Could you pass me the remote?”. Never actually talking.

James spent most of his time watching sports. He always liked sports. I figured that was normal for a guy, right? But he’d always rewind his favorite bits, even when they hadn’t scored a goal or anything.

But, you know. I was always busy on my computer. I’d just starting playing, so I was doing a lot of grinding to get my level up.

(I tried grinding to get James up, but that didn’t work out so well.)

I remember we had exactly two conversations. James had just gotten off the phone with his brother, Barney. Apparently Barney was planning on going to Guatemala with the Peace Corps.

“Are you two close?” I asked, sitting down.

“Not as much as we used to be,” James said. “We were, when we were younger. He’s white, so we got teased a lot.”

“Why do you have a white brother?”

“I don’t know.” James picked up the paper. “Do you want to go see Matt Damon’s new movie.”

You know, that should’ve been my first clue. He always had to see Matt Damon’s movies in the theater. I figured he just appreciated his acting skills. And then I ignored that little noise he made whenever Matt took his shirt off.

The second time we talked was after the third time we had sex (seriously. We were together for seven months and had sex four times). James always rushed things. Not that I could even tell the difference. Anyway, after we had sex, he told me that I should dye my hair red. So I did. I liked it, and he said how it brought out the color in my cheeks.

(And he meant the cheeks of my face, too.)

One day we broke up. He said he needed to not be tied down, or something. Then I moved out to California for the orchestra. Two years later, I ran into James again.

Apparently, I turned him gay.

Damn it.
