The issue with adult content is not the ability to access and repost; it's not providing instant access to all and sundry (read: children) and making people jump through the hoops of affirming that they're over 18 as required by federal law. Those other sites are bound by the law, too.

I was wondering if you could give a little more detail on the doujinshi donation idea?

1. Does the doujinshi have to be scanned before sending it over?

2. Where should the donated doujinshi be shipped to?

3. What kind of information should be included in the shipped package? LJ handle? Anything else?

4. Would you consider setting up a PayPal donation page so that members can donate towards the purchase and scanlation of doujinshi? Maybe have people send a donation and indicate what fandom they'd like to see doujinshi for?

Still working out the idea since I don't know the best way to go about it. Hmm...

1. No, the doujinshi would not have to be scanned first. I would only want a few pages to get the idea of it. I don't want to commit to scanlating something that's 120 pages, handwritten, with novel like text, and bad art. @__@

2: It would be shipping directly to me. Southern CA, USA.

3: I would not require any other information in the package. When posting the doujinshi, I would mention and give credit to the person who contributed.

4: Hmm... It's a good idea. I would just have no idea how to set something like that up. I'll have to think about it. I think what I would be most worried about is if someone were to donate and then they wouldn't like the doujinshi posted. I don't want to disappoint someone who donated real money towards it.

Also, I don't now if this means anything, but I was one of the co-mods on saiyuki_doujin. I know that you and illusionary001 collaborated on several projects.

illusionary001 closed saiyuki_doujin because RL has been keeping her busy, but I've been considering either 1) re-opening it or 2) opening up a sister doujinshi site nitro_doujinshi.

Would you consider continuing the collaboration with saiyuki_doujin or starting one with nitro_doujinshi?

4. If you want to add a PayPal "donate" button to the otakupink community, I can help you with that. I build web sites as a side job and I've set up donation buttons quite a few times.

illusionary001 used to ask for support donations so that members could help support the work she did. You could probably do something like that

I worked with that community when I last ran out of Saiyuki doujin. lol Anyway, I am definitely not against the idea. I'll message you and we can certainly talk about setting something like that up again.

That's very kind of you to offer to do that. Why not? I guess it wouldn't hurt to set up something for donations and see if anything comes of it. Perhaps you're right and as long as I do my best to get the type of doujinshi that the people who donate specify they want it will work out fine. Your example is another good idea, but just starting off simple might be best at first.

Adult screening: frankly, this puritanism from LJ annoys me. It's unnecessary and bothers many people for nothing.

Re-translating our scanlations: my guess is that the teams only want to make sure that you're okay beforehand, even if they kwon of your policy.

The funny thing is, I actually did the LJ screening a while ago. I just thought I should post about it since I had a few people who noticed.

I really do appreciate that they would ask, and I probably shouldn't even mention it. Perhaps I was just lazy about replying to all the emails about it. ^^;

I was curious about this, too. The best Saiyuki doujinshi are very rare.

I thought about that and I completely understand why you wouldn't want to give up your favorite doujinshi. I honestly would feel bad for taking it and then selling it to someone else or even re-selling it back.

In this case I would recommend commissioning it. Maybe I can set up a way for members to post asking other members if they would be interested in donating toward a doujin being commissioned?
