Nothing is more hillarious than when you get all your roomates together to pay the rent and one guy is like, "Oh shit, I have $0" and so you all gotta cover for him! Especially when he resigned the 9 month lease with you NOT EVEN A WEEK AGO. What a roomate!

I understand where you're coming from, and that's what has made the whole situation so delicate, but the fact of the matter is, it's not that he didnt make rent, it's that we can't rely on him. If I can't make rent, I borrow money, I use a credit card, I pawn something or get another job, he doesn't, he comes to us and says, well, I don't have money, guess you guys are going to have to figure something out. Once, its cool man, you're our friend; twice, not cool; three times in a row; You got to go.

I don't know the whole situation (just what you posted actually), but I can see what you mean. I know he's a cool kid, but in "the real world" he does need to be reliable at the very least when it comes to money. Maybe you guys could put him on some sort of prohibation first? Just a suggestion that nobody has to listen to.

Has anyone ever taught him how to handle money at all, btw? Maybe that's all he needs. Once you do something dramatic to a friend like this it's pretty hard to be like how you always were (I know this from experience.) You could always pay off your debts eventually. (Unless you get bad credit then you're marked.) All these are just third party suggestions. You guys are the ones who have to live with him.

I had no idea! Why hadn't he been booted sooner? He's not ready to live on his own.

yeah, I mean, thats kinda the point. even if he found the money, what then next time? Or next time? Hes a bit younger than all of us, so maybe he just wasnt ready... I think most people go back home at least once (hes only 19) hes thinking about going back to school... so I think it really would be better for him to save some money up and figure that up rather than spend all of it on rent in an apartment a few blocks down...
