Are you okay?

Trick-or-Treat! Though you're a kid, so maybe you should get a costume...

I wish you luck then.

Again, magic appears to be a broad term here. What type of magic?

Hmm, let's see...

*She takes off her hat, and shows him the inside*

It's empty, right?

*Scrutinizes the hat* Correct.

*She picks the hat up, reaches her hand inside, and pulls out a handful of candy*

Ta-da!

Party tricks and the like? Impressive, nevertheless.

Hee, thanks~

They may be tricks, but they're good ones!

Tricks may be better than the real magic sometimes.

They're not that different, I think. Both are just ways of making something happen that people didn't know could be done.

Is there a lot of magic where you're from?

It's difficult to use party tricks to cause harm, however.

I'm afraid I don't remember that much yet. What do you remember of where you are from?

Well, you could rob a bank using escape techniques, or hold someone up with a trick gun. And sometimes people get hurt in magic shows, too.

I don't remember that much, either. Most of the magic we have is the tricks kind. I'm from a family of magicians, but my daddy is an attorney slash poker player I think. And I'm a different attorney's assistant.

Those are small events, almost necessary to keep the balance between people and...good and evil, in a way. Using something so all-powerful as true magic to achieve things less than morally good only raises the stakes on both sides. Banks and magic shows can escalate to cities and worlds.

A family. At least you remember them.

I guess so...

I didn't remember my family for a long time, actually. But when I remembered my dad, it turned out he was here all along! Well, he left actually. But I mean, since you can't remember your family from back home, then anyone can be your family. I think that's kind of nice, don't you?

You're certainly optimistic, Trucy.

Hee hee, maybe, but I don't think it usually works out to be so wrong!
