Admittedly February is not quite over yet, buuuut there’s only one day left and tonight is spoken for by the anime series Gankutsuo (SUPER EMO COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO IN SPAAAAAAAACE, this anime is just like the novel except dialed up to eleven - WHO EVEN KNEW THE NOVEL COULD BE DIALED UP FURTHER? - I’ve only seen one episode so far but I adore it ( Read more... )

Ernest & Celestine tell the police that they’re only pursuing the case because Ernest & Celestine’s friendship flies in the face of deeply ingrained prejudices.

That's too adorable. Maybe the whole mouse + bear teamup was a clever plan to confuse the cartoon animal justice system and get away with robbery?

It's been a long long time since I saw The African Queen, maybe I should watch it again?

Gankutsuo! I started to watch it weeks ago, but my computer was too slow and then I got busy. . . I hope it's as amazing as it sounds!

I think we are meant to take mouse + bear teamup = FIGHTING PREJUDICE thing seriously, although I do like the idea of Ernest and Celestine, hardened cons, trying to pull the wool over the justice system's eyes with this dubious claim.

I am always in favor of another watch of The African Queen. I think it's one of Katherine Hepburn's best roles.

And Gankutsuo is ludicrously delightful. How is it possible to make the count more emo and brooding than he is in the book? But I swear the anime version spends all his non-revenge time searching out the perfect dramatic spots in which to brood/read dusty tomes to find angsty quotes that he can throw out in conversation whenever he needs them.
