January Movies

Rather than putting off my movie reviews until the end of the year - always with the intention of getting to them earlier, but ultimately writing most of them up in a brief recap post - I have decided to do monthly movie review posts this year.

January has been the month of Jurassic Park. I mentioned to my friend Myra that I hadn’t seen them and ( Read more... )

"Sailing for adventure on the--big blue wet thing?!"

I LOVE Muppet Treasure Island so much. Easily the best Muppet movie.

Squire Trelawny's half-wit son and the man who lives in his finger, Mr. Bimble! Such a good. Everything about that movie is just the best.

*squee* I am so glad you liked Jurassic Park - it's one of my very favourite movies ever, mostly for the reason you state, that there's this really clever build up that's just not meant to be scary but to make the atmosphere and reality so solid and get you to know the characters ... and I think it looks beautiful too. I love it.

I agree about The Lost World. It's not as bad as some people say it is (although compared to the book, it always makes me sad because book!Sarah Harding is amazing and movie!Sarah Harding is ... less amazing.) But seeing the T-Rex in San Deigo just isn't that scary to me (it should have been velociraptors!)

Jurassic Park III .... eeeeeeeh. I don't hate it but it's not ... great.

I haven't actually seen Jurassic World ... I couldn't quite bring myself to, somehow. I love Jurassic Park too much! If you do, tell us what you think!

Muppets Treasure Island is an AMAZING film, it always makes me happpy to watch.

The dinosaurs are so great! Sometimes when I watch older movies the special effects no longer look good, but the ones in Jurassic Park are just fine and the dinosaurs are still super scary.

Velociraptors in San Diego though! Now that would have been scary. HOW DO YOU ROUND THEM ALL UP?

If all goes as planned I'll be watching Jurassic World tomorrow night, so I will report back!

Ellie is the secret MVP of the Jurassic Park movies.

They’re dance scenes strung together on an extremely tenuous thread of plot

No but that is a feature not a bug. LOLOLOLOL. I love them to biiittttsss but ah well, you gave them a try.

She really is. And I so want to know how she got enough armed forces contacts to send the marines in to save Alan.

Jurassic Park! :D I rewatched that recently with my girlfriend (who had somehow also passed her life never seeing it), and I'd forgotten just how well-crafted it is, how well it hits every note.

I liked Jurassic World, which is somewhat of an unpopular opinion. It's not as good as the first one, of course, but I thought it was better than 2 and 3.

The build-up in Jurassic Park is so epic. It starts slow and just - builds - and builds - and BUILDS -

I actually just saw Jurassic World tonight! I think if Jurassic Park had been one of the beloved classics of my childhood I might have been more irritated by Jurassic World (and I do think the switch from animatronic dinosaurs to mostly CGI was a mistake; it's good CGI, but still, the dinosaurs don't seem as real and weighty and scary), but it was an entertaining enough way to spend two hours.
