NaNoWriMo

Is anyone else doing NaNoWriMo? I'm about a day behind on my words because I only settled which idea to write on the evening of the first, but so far the writing is going well, although as generally happens at this point in the writing process it feels very disjointed ( Read more... )

This sounds like a **very** intriguing book! And totally not on the horizon from books you've talked about recently. When/where/how did you get the idea?

You say the world is very like ours--is it equivalent technologically to ours (cars and Internet and things)?

I'm not doing Nano, just chugging along in the same old way. Right now I'm taking a break from both my novel and the short story I've mentioned to you* to write a shorter short story about duplication.

*The decommissioned god story. I'm realizing I have to plot out for myself exactly what happened at XX point in the distant past and then figure out how to reveal that stuff so it's not totally predictable and not an unexpected and flabbergasting info dump.

I had the idea...last spring, I think? It actually sort of grew out of the ghost romance: I got less and less interested in the romance aspect and ever more interested in the worldbuilding, and things developed from there.

Ooooh, I liked your post about the duplication dreams! I hope that makes a good short story.

Aw, I'm not doing it (although i'm beginning to feel as if my yuletide fic is going to be long enough to qualify if I don't watch out), but good luck with the writing!

Your world-building does sound pretty fascinating to me. :-)

I'm glad the world-building sounds good, because there may be MANY MORE world-building posts as I work things out in my own head. Right now I'm trying to decide if having possessed people occasionally manifest their possession with slit-pupiled eyes is too cliche.

Not ebing a horror buff, I'm probably not qualified to comment, but some cliches are because they work, and that's kind of creepy but discreet and also might have other causes, so seems sensible re. what you wanted.

I'm doing Nano, though I am already way, way behind on word count (November is never a good month for me). Your plot and worldbuilding sound fascinating! And I'm impressed that you're doing a complicated double-structure like that on such a tight deadline.

I have never actually won NaNo, so I suspect that I'm going to end up way behind too - although I figure that anything I get written is words I wouldn't have had otherwise, right?

I'm still contemplating the structure. I'm thinking maybe I should have the flashback to the Exorcism That Went Wrong right after the first couple of chapters: I think it makes more sense for the character to be thinking about the specific thing that got them in this mess, rather than remembering how she met her exorcist friends months and months before the Exorcism of Doom.
