I'm impressed that the friendship imploding didn't ruin the mug for you, or make it a touchstone for angsty musings. Or maybe it does, but you don't mind?

Sometimes I do look at it in the wistful spirit of "Why couldn't our friendship endure like this mug?" But I had been using it as my morning tea mug for a few months before the friendship fell apart, so I had already gotten fairly attached to it for its own sake.
