Day 26 - OMG WTF? season finale.

Um, I’m still kind of mad about the finale of Torchwood’s second season. Yes, kill all my favorite characters, why don’t you! One of them for the second time.

Of course, this saved me from watching any of the later seasons of Torchwood, so really it’s probably just as well.

Psych always seems to end its seasons ( Read more... )

I too like Castle's regular eps. WAY more than the conspiracy eps., because those just bland out into every other detective show's style of conspiracy theory.

Ah Torchwood. The show where the protagonist always Makes Things Worse.

I am continually puzzled why the Castle writers think the conspiracy eps are a good idea. I suppose at this point they're committed to the fact that Becket's mom died in an enormous city-wide (possibly nation-wide? I seem to recall a senator was involved) conspiracy, but I don't think anyone would cry if they wrapped it up quickly and moved on to other things.

I have a lingering suspicion that Captain Jack Harkness chose his team specifically for their incompetence, because they were more likely to create entertainment for him by nearly destroying the earth that way. He's lived a long time, okay, he gets bored easily!

Or to hide his own incompetence! No episode is fresh enough in my mind for me to cite specific details from, but the impression I got was that he was always insisting on stirring things up in a way that only made matters more and more miserable. Though that also goes along with the boredom principle you've articulated.

I wonder if there are any fanfics that crossover Jack Harkness and Star Trek TNG's Q.

Almost certainly that crossover fic exists. People love Jack Harkness for crossovers. But Jack Harkness characterization in fic tends to be more competent and all-around nicer in fic than in the show.

The one big example of Jack's stir-the-pot style of management is the season one finale, when the whole team is coming to pieces because of the Big Bad. They have a big team confrontation, and Jack decides to tell each team member in turn (and in front of all the others) a biting capsule summary of their deepest fears and insecurities.

I can only assume that he wanted to make everything infinitely worse. Unless he thought this would somehow create a bonding moment because they would feel understood? Or something?

No Torchwood: Children of Earth? I loved that miniseries, I thought it was genuinely edge of seat stuff.

Well, I've heard there's some sort of plague involved and I hate plague stories because they make me so anxious, and also IIRC they kill my third favorite character, so I decided to give it a miss.

Probably. S3 was horribly depressing and totally different in tone with the rest of the show, as was S4, but S4 had such a huge logic hole that not even DW world building can make sense of it.

My OMG WTF? season finale will forever and always be the Dexter series finale.

I stopped watching Dexter around season 2, but I have heard of the Dexter series finale. For a while it seemed to be everyone's go-to for the Worst Finale Ever, until the HIMYM finale blew it out of the water.

I don't know, I think they might be tied. I mean, LUMBERJACK. And what they did to Deb...

I have not heard what they did to Deb. Whatever it was, I am preemptively angry, because DEB WAS THE BEST. They should not harm a hair on her head!
