Vlog adaptations: Northanger Abbey

Via ladyherenya, an interesting article about How the Vlog & Transmedia Set-Up Make Plot Harder for LBD, which I think is excellent. There’s definitely a tension in LBD between “Lizzie growing as a person and not being judgmental all over the internet,” and “Lizzie doing super entertaining costume theater ( Read more... )

I know, right! Now I kind of want Northanger Abbey vlog to happen, because it would be awesomely awesome. And while "Catherine thinks General Tilney is a vampire" would make her look ridiculous if it wasn't well-handled, it also has great potential for hilarity.

Ha, I may ask you to read the whole Robot Book when it is done if you are into 1930s robot AUs.

(Also, this reminds me, I need to read your new Hetalia story! Am behind on All the Things.)

Catherine might indeed find half-vampire Henry totally swoon-worthy! The important thing would be cluing the reader into the fact that no one is going to actually turn out to be a vampire, because otherwise they might be disappointed.

I'm not sure it's exactly dieselpunk (but then I'm not quite sure where the lines between steampunk and dieselpunk are? But it's not steampunk either). But yeah, robots! And hopping trains! And pilfered ancient Egyptian mummies!

I am now obsessed with coming up with a reason for the General to send Catherine away! This is an awesome idea! Also, Wuthering Heights might work as a Reality TV Show a la Jersey Shore.

I could so see Wuthering Heights as a reality TV show! The producers are like "HA, this mix of people will be awesome," but eventually it spins totally out of control!

The only problem would be the amount of time WH covers: the story takes like 30 years to unfold. I'm not sure how to compress it.

making a vlog of something like Jane Eyre would shatter them like glass.

Plus, Jane Eyre is probably too circumspect to have a vlog.

YES. I saw a lot of discussion sometime ago from people who wanted Jane Eyre to be the next vlog adaptation, and while I'd love to spend a year analysing Jane Eyre, I just don't see how it would work.

I really like the idea of a Northanger Abbey vlog, too! Catherine would love telling the internet all about her theories, and Isabella would be very happy to tell the internet all about herself ( ... )

Yes, it would be great to see a good modern adaptation of Jane Eyre, but vlog just isn't the format. Even leaving aside the format issue, I think it might be harder to adapt than P&P, because Rochester's flaws are somewhat more glaring than Darcy's. Darcy is kind of arrogant and standoffish; Rochester keeps a mad wife in the attic and nearly tricks Jane into bigamy ( ... )
