Wherefore art thou, Juliet?

I drove home today through furious rain, with the sun in my eyes. At the same time. Which is so unfair. Make up your mind, weather demons!

And now: Psych. I've finally started in on the fourth season - have seen the first four episodes - and, um...

1. Where is Jules? I mean, she's there (occasionally), but she's got like nothing to do. Let her be awesome again!

2. And where is Lassie? He is there and has slightly more to do than Jules, but nonetheless this has become basically the "Shawn and Gus are awesome" show.

And they are both totally awesome, but so were Jules and Lassie and their competitive but still affectionate partnership (and kudos to the writers for not shipping them at all) and I WANT THEM BACK.

3. And on the topic of shipping - why are they shipping Juliet and Shawn make it stoooooooop.

Because, a): this sort of extended hobbling around a relationship is totally totally boring. If Shawn and Juliet are going to get together, the writers should bite the bullet and get them together already.

But, b): Shawn and Juliet should absolutely not get together, because they would be a terrible couple, because Shawn is probably not capable of a real adult partnership with anyone - he's just too damn needy. (Given that the show is basically cotton candy, it paints a surprisingly convincing picture of how deeply messed up Shawn is.)

Therefore, c): the writers should stop tormenting us with the possibility that a relationship that would be a trainwreck might happen at some indefinable point in the future.

I find this all especially annoying given that Shawn has a girlfriend now, and she's cool (and she and Jules should totes have an episode where they solve a crime together and never never never discuss Shawn), but I can't get invested in their relationship because I know that, narratively, she's just an impediment: an excuse for the writers not to get Shawn and Juliet together. (You can tell because she gets so little screen time.)

And finally, d): I don't mind that Shawn relates to Juliet by flirting; he relates to everyone that way. (Has anyone written a crossover where he meets Jack Harkness?)

When the flirting clearly isn't serious - when they're using it to express that they each think the other is the bee's knees, but don't want to have a relationship based on it - it's adorable. It's when the writers are pushing the loooooooooove angle that it burns.

4. I could have totally done without the episode where the girl accidentally drugs her best friend to death because she wants the best friend's boyfriend. I'm just saying.

Does the show go on like this for the rest of the season? Because I want Juliet back.
