I agree with selkath's comments. And I also admire your character for his strength of purpose. I can't tell you how much I wish I had that kind of resolve and commitment.

Well, this is me fooling around with some space opera type stuff. The Fire is a Force-analog kind of thing that I've been refining somewhat for a larger work. I've worked out so far that it functions almost like a star in the souls of men - something of gravity that draws one in and... something. I'm still figuring it out. :)

I agree with the others. I think there is something universal about this piece that makes it rather good. I liked the last paragraph the best.
