Congratulations!

That's a bummer about the picture frame. Chris' brother got their Mom the same gift last Christmas. She was also befuddled, but he was very hand-hold-y about it and set the whole thing up for her and all was well, I presume.

Well, originally my plan was to open it and fill it with pics and then wrap it back up - but my computer picked December 31st to die and I've just ordered a new one - but that didn't help me. Maybe if I had gotten to do that it would've gone over better.

Congrats about your thesis. But my sympathies about the gift thing. That's what gift receipts are for, I guess. I would never call someone up and tell them to take back their present though. That person wouldn't be getting anything from me ever again, I don't think.

I prefer upfront honesty to having to force them into a polite lie every time I go over there and ask why it wasn't on display.

I am not a grudge-holder.

Congratulations! I know the feeling -- it's hard to believe that you have achieved something, when you've been working for so long to achieve it. But you really have!

As for the picture frames, I would have made the same assumptions you did. It's the thought that counts, and they know you tried.

congrats on the thesis, Master! :)
Sorry about the bust on the picture frame - sounds like a great gift to me.
Family can be so hard to buy for.
