I liked statistics, too, despite years of loathing (and failing) math classes. I think it was that it felt really tangible to me, so when I got an answer wrong, it very clearly did not make logical sense, whereas with other math problems, the answer could be 300 or 5000 and I wouldn't necessarily be able to tell which was right with only the equation for context.
